“O câncer no esôfago está se espalhando para o fígado. Não consigo impedi-lo. Por quê? Porque sou um idoso e porque tenho duas doenças crônicas. Não posso nem fazer tratamento bioquímico nem cirurgia, porque meu corpo não aguenta”, disse Mujica, com a franqueza e simplicidade que marcou sua trajetória pública. “Sinceramente, estou morrendo. E o guerreiro tem direito ao seu descanso.”
Ex-guerrilheiro, foi presidente do Uruguai entre 2010 e 2015. Sua história é marcada por 13 anos de prisão em condições desumanas durante a ditadura militar uruguaia (1973-1985). Após ser libertado, Mujica se tornou um símbolo da luta pela justiça social e pelos direitos humanos.
